Legacy of Light

An exciting, original play depicting our Christian legacy and heritage. From the catacombs of Rome, to the shores of Ireland, down through the ages, and ending with the heart warming story of the creation of a beloved Christmas carol, 'Silent Night'. Each story reflects the eternal Light that comes from God. Click through the many pictures in the gallery above to get a better picture of the history covered in 'Legacy of Light'.

This play is purposefully designed to be as simple as possible to produce and perform. If you’ve never been involved in drama of any kind, or if you are a seasoned director, Legacy of Light is crafted to be an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. The script is jam packed with all kinds of director helps including costume suggestions, sample prop list and costume changing schedule. Also included is a cast list as well as acting tips and a character analysis sheet. A careful study of the information included should encourage you as a director as well as take away some of the mystery surrounding producing a play.

Church History, for a Christmas Program?!

The Church with a capitol C (as in the universal, Biblical church) is largely uneducated on our history as the Church. Church history crosses all barriers. All believers regardless of personal familial heritage are grafted into the history of the Church. God has sustained our ancestors through persecution, hardship, disease, and famine while spreading His Gospel throughout the world. Their remarkable stories should be remembered, reflected on and recounted continually as heroes of our faith. Many Christians today lack an understanding of this godly heritage and it’s implications on our futures. Recounting the faithfulness of God through the ages is a way to reinforce what Scripture teaches. Church history is not dry, dusty tales to be relegated to constant neglect, but rather is filled with real people, whose actions affect us to this day. We should not only be aware of their stories, but use them to learn life lessons from the men and women who have gone before us. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. I decided to do something about it.

It was my aim to be as accurate as possible and still present a memorable experience on stage. It was difficult to take 2,000 years of Church history and narrow it down to an exciting, stage worthy production. Choosing to spotlight the early Church in Rome, the Celtic Church, the English Church, the Bible in everyday language controversy and the heart warming true tale of one of the most loved Christmas carols, will hopefully peak the interest of your participants and audience to study further in the chronicles of Church annals. Historical accuracy was checked and double checked to the best of my ability using a variety of sources even down to the small details, such as did the Romans shake hands? (Yes, they did, in case you were wondering!) No doubt there are areas of fault, but rest assured that it wasn’t without effort to remain free of such errors.

Christmas is a season in which many people come to church that normally would not. Christmas programs in particular draw relatives and friends to a time of God honoring education and entertainment. Not only is this play evangelistic in presenting the Gospel, but it is also my aim to educate the Church on it’s vibrant and relevant history. Using the medium of drama, both the participants and viewers will be exposed to an area vastly forgotten in today’s church. While the play is not expressly Christmas, the finale should be a wonderful surprise and tie into the Christmas season.
